Silver Stars, with several Zimbabwean internationals in its ranks, have capped their impressive run in the Castle Premiership by lifting the R4,2 million Telkom Knockout, the richest domestic Cup in Africa.

The feat, following their 3-1 thrashing of Ajax Cape Town in Pretoria last Saturday, was the modest club’s first PSL accolade.

It was also the Warriors trio of Bekithemba Ndlovu, Joel Luphahla and Tapuwa Kapini’s maiden accolade outside Zimbabwe.

Of the three, Luphahla featured in the final after coming on as a second-half substitute while Ndlovu and Luphahla proudly received their medals without raising a sweat in the victory.

The well-attended Final was as good as over in the first half when PSL man of the moment, Simba Marumo, struck a well-taken hat trick to bring his tally in the competition to six.

The second half had nothing much to write home about but Ajax’s Dikulu Bageta’s facesaver from the penalty spot.

Despite operating on a shoestring budget and meagre technical resources, Stars are comfortably perched on top of the Premiership standings.

The Warriors pair of Ndlovu, especially, and Luphahla has been pivotal in the Limpopo-outfit’s fabulous run in the League and Cup while goalkeeper Kapini keeps first choice goal minder Wayne Sandilands on his toes.- CAJ News
