All systems go for All Africa

THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has summoned all national associations for a meeting tomorrow (January 12) to chart the way forward, ahead of All Africa Games set for Algeria in July.
SRC director general, Charles Nhemachena, said the purpose of the meeting was for all associations to

speak with one voice and come up with a budget before the teams leave for the north-African country.
“The purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the All Africa Games later this year. It would determine the number of athletes who would take part at the games. A management committee headed by Custom Kachambwa has been put in place to spell out the way forward for the associations and work together until the games begin,” Nhemachena said.
Nhemachena said the SRC, which would finance the Zimbabwean contingent, was optimistic that the athletes would bring home a “number” of the prized silverware.
“We are not going to Algeria to make up numbers. We will be sending medal hopefuls only,” said Nhemachena.
SRC, a service parastatal, is a corporate body which was mandated by Parliamentary Act Number 15 of 1991 to oversee the development of sport in Zimbabwe. It came into existence on 1st September 1991, following the recommendations of the Presidential Advisory Committee on the organisation of sport in Zimbabwe.
