Mwana acclimatise for Cup

Inaugural CBZ Cup winners Mwana Africa, seeking to make an impression at their debut appearance in the Confederation Cup, could next week be touring the Democratic Republic of Congo for an international friendly with African Champions League representative TP Mazembe Engelbert.
Mwana Africa team

manager, Milton Nyamadzawo, said it was imperative the team prepared adequately for their African safari, in which the miners are hoping to go beyond the preliminary stage.
Mwana Africa were promoted from division one last season.
“We are taking the Confederation Cup very seriously and are not going there to make up numbers. We took into consideration the fact that we are likely to play in very hot and humid conditions in Zanzibar and we felt the need to play in a similar environment – and the tour to the DRC could help us to acclimatise,” said Nyamadzawo.
Nyamadzawo said although Zanzibar were not among the continent’s traditional soccer giants, Mwana Africa were treating Mundu with respect, mindful that any complacency on their part could result in humiliation.
“Some people might say Mundu are a small team coming from a small nation in terms of football but there are no small teams anymore, and we could be given a rude awakening.
“The football arena has changed a lot and we could be shocked if we try to underrate them” Nyamadzowo said.
After the match in DRC, Mwana Africa would leave for the Zanzibar to play Mundu FC for the continental showcase.
Mwana Africa will travel to Zanzibar for the preliminary round next week for the first leg tie against the East Africans on the weekend of January 26-28. The return leg is scheduled for Zimbabwe on February 9-11.
