Often the banter would have been about encounters at school, an up-coming family outing or just about the day’s events. Sadly this seems to be a thing of the past given that most Zimbabwean families are dispersed the world over, but for those that manage to live in their birth country the options are surprisingly appetizing.
Wild Geese, Spring Fever, Country Club, Willowmead, Adriennes, Coimbra, Borrowdale Brooke Country Club and Gecko Gardens are a handful of venues worth mentioning as options for a Sunday outing. Enterprise Road now boasts a number of restaurants and driving from Newlands there are several coffee shops, the African themed Amanzi, the recently opened Shangri-la and the up-market Seasons. The criteria for choosing a venue will undoubtedly be good food and most probably entertainment for the kids. Having asked a few work colleagues and friends a Sunday luncheon by Zimbabwean standards seems to be defined as a lunch in the garden under an umbrella at a popular restaurant or country club and given what the venues have on offer they seem to cater for just that. Most venues in Harare offer good value with buffet-styled menus and those with entertainment are popular amongst diners looking to extend the usual lunch outing into a full afternoon.
The Zimbabwean never-say-die attitude isn’t more apparent than at a Sunday Lunch at one of Harare’s venues where a casual outsider wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that life in Harare, if only for a day, isn’t actually that bad.

Sunday Traditions
Growing up in Zimbabwe an all time favourite was 'Sunday Lunch' which in most households would have been a weekly tradition. The family sat around the dining room table to a roast with vegetables, roast potatoes, rice and mom's gravy.
