Tennis stars triumph in Rwanda

KAGALI - Tennis stars Genius Chidzikwe and Gwinyai Tongoona have done what they promised when they left the country early this month by winning titles at the International Tennis Federation East Africa money circuit.
The duo outshone all the other players in the Rwandan leg of the competition to

set themselves up for a berth in the final, where Chidzikwe went on to win 6-1, 6-4.
Chidzikwe and Tongoona, who are currently playing in the last leg of the tournament in Uganda, are seeded first and second respectively and stand an excellent chance of winning the event.
Another Zimbabwean, Liberty Nzula, is also faring well and is currently seeded number 12 after reaching the third round of the tournament where he lost 6-0, 7-5 to a Kenyan Maurice Wamukowa.
Seeded 13, Peter Nyamande is not doing badly either. The four players are also causing havoc in the doubles competitions.
After being given a bye in the first round, Chidzikwe and doubles partner Nzula beat Elvis Harimeshi and Issa Karorero, both of Burundi, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
The Zimbabwean duo progressed to the semis where they made light work of Rwandans Eric Hagenimana and Claude Gasigwa, dismissing them 6-4, 6-4.
In the final, they met the duo of Tongoona and Nyamande, who also had a fine run. The duo, who were seeded fourth, reached the final after having dismissed Kenyans Francis Rogoi and Wamukowa 6-0, 6-4. However, they lost 4-6, 3-6 to Chidzikwe and Nzula in the final. – Sports Reporter.
