Eastern Lions 4 -1 Zimbabwe Saints (28-06-07)

MUTARE -

g=EN-GB>Former Zimbabwe soccer powerhouse, Zimbabwe Saints, were thrashed 4-1 by Eastern Lions in a one-sided CBZ FA Cup match played at Sakubva in the eastern city of Mutare on Sunday.
The newly promoted eastern-region champions scored the four goals through Liberty Ndadzungira, Eusebio Manuwere, Simon Musewe and former Masvingo United midfielder Nisbert Zvekare.
The Mutare-based premiership outfit did not waste their time in bombarding the visiting Bulawayo division one from left, right and centre.

It came as no surprise when dribbling wizard Manuwere fired the hosts ahead in as early as the 9th minute.

Before Zimbabwe Saints, popularly known as Chauya Chikwata, could organise their defence, the Eastern Lions hit again, this time through Ndadzungira, who unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the penalty box to make it 2-0.

The second goal appeared to have bust Saints’ bubble, leaving them deflated in the dying minutes of the first half.

Former Masvingo United and Gutu Leopards midfielder Zvekare grabbed the third goal for the Mutare premiership side in the 43rd minute.

Three goals appeared enough for the hosts as the allowed complacency to creep in. Eastern Lions paid for allowing complacency to creep in when Saints scored their only goal of the day through Dalibuhle Moyo, though the damage had already been inflicted.
