Highlanders 2 – 1 Jets (28-06-07)

BULAWAYO - Soccer giants Highlanders Football Club laboured in their 2-1 victory over Jets Football Club in a Z$1.5bn CBZ FA Cup match played at Barbourfields S

tadium in Bulawayo on Sunday.

‘Boss’ grabbed their two important goals through former Masvingo United forward Douglas Zimbago and Ralph Matema to subdue the otherwise stubborn Eastern Region division one soccer outfit.

The Stanford Mtizwa-coached Jets got the consolation goal through Ephert Chakwata in the second half.

But disaster further struck Jets when one of their key players, Arnold Chaka, was red-carded for crude tackles in the 76th minute.

Highlanders, who were expected to run riot against the lowly rated division one side, had to summon their experience in order to beat Jets.

Jets, who approached the cup game with focus, matched Highlanders man for man and were even threatening to humiliate the premiership champions had it not been for some questionable match officiating towards the end of the game.

Despite being one man short, Jets kept piling relentless pressure on Bosso, who reacted by playing high and aimless balls.
