SA summons Khaya-Moyo

South Africa summoned Zimbabwe's ambassador last week to protest about violent attacks on its businesses in Harare, according to diplomatic sources.
Sources told The Zimbabwean that top SA Foreign Ministry officials had met Zimbabwean ambassador Simon Khaya-Moyo last Thursday after receiving cal

ls from South African companies in Harare that managers were being attacked and jailed by police officers and militants who called themselves war veterans.
“South African businesses are entitled to protection,” deputy SA Foreign chief Aziz Pahad said as police in Harare violently arrested senior managers SA-based Innscor and Edgars. Among managers of SA-domiciled companies arrested were Innscor CEO Michael Fowler, Innscor non-executive director Zed Koudounaris, Edgars Group finance director Adam Esats and Harare Edgars Stores operations manager Charles Janga.
A South African Foreign Office official, speaking strictly on condition of anonymity, said they protested about “incoherent policies” and Harare’s continued disregard for property rights. Harare was also accused of ignoring treaties protecting foreign investments.
“We were given assurances by the ambassador on behalf of his government,” said the official. – Chief reporter
