In Division 1, South African Martin van Jaarsveld scored 166 in Kent’s innings defeat of Surrey at Whitgift School and another South African, Nic Pothas, hit an unbeaten 126 to guide Hampshire to a draw away to unbeaten Warwickshire.
Despite Lancashire off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan taking 4-25 from 26 overs in the absence of injured teammate Andrew Flintoff, title-holders Sussex held on for a draw at Hove.
* Top-of-the-table Durham blasted 332-4 off 50 overs to demolish Worcestershire by 143 runs in a Friends Provident Trophy match at Chester-le-Street.
