t to continue rallying behind ‘Asipo Haapo’ as Masvingo United are affectionately called.
Asidi’s comments comes in the wake of sudden fall in form in which Masvingo United, who are coached by Taurai Mangwiro, last tasted victory a month ago when they had to struggle to beat division-one side Underhill in a CBZ first round tie at Mucheke Stadium.
Masvingo United fans expressed dismay over their team’s sudden dip in form.
“If the team continues to play the way it is doing right now they can kiss goodbye to the championship. What the team needs is a striker as it has not been scoring of late … in fact it has been scoring blanks,” said Memory Mushonga, an ardent Masvingo United fan.
But Asidi believes that his side is still in the run for the championship. “It’s not that we have lost form but, if you look at other teams, they have been losing away matches and winning at home and that is what is happening to us. We are still in the run for the PSL championship,” said Asidi.
“It’s now too late to bring in a striker from division one for he will take long to adapt to football in the league. That we are going to purchase a new striker is out of question,” he said.
However, a Masvingo United senior player said, “The truth is that we need a striker who is able to score more goals. If you look at our play we are not bad but the problem is that we are not able to score regularly”.
Since the departure of chief striker Lloyd Hlahla for Botswana, Masvingo United has been struggling to score.
