Byo water supply desperate (24-08-07)

BULAWAYO
Bulawayo City Council has warned that the city faces disease outbreaks due to critical water rationing, as it can only provide water once every five days due to dwindling supplies.
The recent decommissioning of the country's second largest city dam, Ncema, has triggered an a

cute water shortage. Bulawayo decommissioned two other dams earlier this year after they ran dry.
The city now relies on only two dams, Insiza and Inyankuni. It requires 140 000 cubic metres of water per day but with the decommissioning of Lower Ncema, supply has fallen to 60 000 cubic metres.
The government remains accused of neglecting the grim situation by failing to provide alternative sources of water by, for example, by linking the city to Mtshabezi and Umzingwane Dams or constructing the Gwaayi-Shangaani Dam. – CAJ News
