Fans rampage over Chunga

Weekend defeat leaves crowds angry and managers in dilemma
GWANZURA - CAPS United fans said they do not want to see Moses Chunga on the club's bench after CAPS United drew against Mwana Africa in a match they could have easily won, had Chunga played his cards right.
CAPS United's leadership ha

s been in a fire-fighting mood since Sunday, when violence erupted at Gwanzura and police had to be called, resulting to Chunga announcing his resignation.
The drama at Gwanzura started with 20 minutes remaining on the clock, when some CAPS United supporters started to sing songs that mocked Chunga as a terrible coach.
Later, club president Twine Phiri and director of operations Farai Jere announced that after a lengthy meeting with Chunga, the coach had had a change of heart and will no longer be leaving CAPS United.
Chairman Abraham Kawadza and his deputy Mapfumo Mapfumo attended the same meeting and endorsed the decision for Chunga to remain in charge of the team – but fans this week said they were not representing their views.
Fans who spoke to The Zimbabwean said the only way Chunga could redeem himself was to win at least the next five games.
“We will not accept any more draws or losses, especially if they are a result of his (Chunga’s) selection,” said a fan from Mufakose.
Joel from Milton Park said, “It’s an open secret, if it was not for them, he would have been fired. Twine and Jere are failing to read the writing on the wall. What more do they want, the result are there for them to see”
Fans accused Twine and Jere of keeping Chunga at the expense of supporters whose money has been the lifeblood of the team.
“Is it called Twine United or Caps United? …He (Twine) should not be surprised when supporters watch better football somewhere, like what happened during the third quarter of the season. No-one is prepared to pay money to watch uninspiring football,” said Elvis Chawanda from Houghton Park.
Said Richard Muguti from Masasa Park: “The world over, a coach’s success depends on his results. We wonder what is so special about Chunga, the Caps executive are exposing themselves and have no one but them to blame.”
The CAPS United fan’s relationship with Chunga has been tricky after their side was held to their 10th draw of the season in the league – in which they have now fallen eight points behind bitter rivals Dynamos. The team has now collected just two out of a possible nine in their last three matches.
