FRANK LAMPARD was on target as Chelsea, now top of the Premier League after leapfrogging Manchester City, edged out visitors Portsmouth 1-0, while City went down 1-0 to a Cesc Fabregas goal at Arsenal. Another 1-0 scoreline came at Old Trafford where Nani's 25-yard shot earned

Manchester United the points against Tottenham.
Middlesborough’s big north-east derby at home to Newcastle ended 2-2 and player-coach Gary Speed’s header set Bolton up for their first win, 3-0 against visitors Reading. Newly-promoted Derby and Sunderland both lost at home, 2-1 and 2-0 to Birmingham and Liverpool respectively.
Teddy Sheringham, now 41, scored in Colchester’s 3-0 Championship win at Preston, while Leeds, already docked 15 points in League One, made it three wins from three as Jermaine Beckford’s 89th-minute goal secured a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest. In League Two, Morecambe gained their first-ever League win, 3-0 at home to Mansfield.
Rangers won 2-1 at Kilmarnock to stay top of the Scottish Premier. But Celtic are close behind, Japan’s Nakamura scoring twice in a 5-0 romp against Hearts in Glasgow.
* This Sunday, Chelsea go to Aston Villa and Manchester City visit Blackburn.
