Bosso blows chance

BULAWAYO - Defending league champions, Highlanders, blew their chances of closing in on perennial rivals Dynamos for the second time in as many weeks, when the Bulawayo giants slumped to a 1-2 defeat in the hands of Njube Sundowns at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

September Southern Region/ Supercharge Distributors player of the month, Evans Chikwaikwai, scored the brace that condemned Bosso to their first-ever defeat at the hands of their city neighbours, resulting in renewed calls for the axing of coach Mathembe Ndlovu.
Eric Mudzingwa headed in a face-saver for the disappointing Highlanders, who were last week held to a goal-less draw at the same venue by Masvingo United.
Dynamos, saved the blushes by a controversial penalty which saw them eventually earn a 2-2 draw away to Hwange at the Colliery last week, were this weekend held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Motor Action at Gwanzura, in another disappointing showing by David Mandigora’s men.
However, DeMare managed to extend their lead at the top of the log standings to four points, courtesy of second-placed Bosso’s third defeat at Barbourfields this season.
Only Caps FC (2-1 over Eastern Lions), and Lengthens (1-0 over Monomotapa) were the other winners in a weekend of draws.
Visiting log anchors, Black Rhinos, drew 0-0 with fellow army side, Chapungu at Ascot, Lancashire Steel were restricted to the same scoreline by visiting Hwange at Baghdad, hosts Masvingo United failed to do any better against Caps United at Mucheke.
Shooting Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by10-men Mwana Africa at Dzivarasekwa Stadium.
Mwana captain Thomas Svesve was red-carded for a second bookable offence in the second half.
Motor Action remain second from bottom with 26 points, just one more than Rhinos and a point less than Mwana Africa.
Caps FC, Hwange and Monomotapa, tied at 29 points, together with Eastern Lions (30), Caps United (32) and Lengthens (33) are also not yet safe.
