Mabvuku top of chess league

BY VICTOR CHIBAMU, THE 2007 chess league has ended, and Mabvuku chessmen are the winners.
Though they drew their last game against CBZ, they are still eight points above the second-placed team, Glen Norah Gunners.

The team comprised Fide Master Rodwell Makoto, former national champion Elisha Chimbamu, and national team trialists Daud Amini, Lloyd Moyo and Charlton Maravanyika.

CBZ had David Mutenure, Tatenda Marufu, Tinashe Njagu, Carlton Tapererwa Uzeni and Edgar Mutevani.
Mabvuku were awarded the trophy in the absence of their chairman Bruce Madamombe who was out of the country on business.

The club, which was formed this year, proved up to the task by clinching the title. Defending champions Gunners finished second. They lost their last match to POSB.

Ivan Chivese beat Farai Masanganise in one of the most interesting games of the day. Agribank beat AON 6- nil as they were awarded a walkover.

This was the same result for the Simba Murimi-coached side Kingdom against Crowborough,  who failed to turn up for the match.
