Roberto de Almeida, who accompanied his Zimbabwean counterpart, John Nkomo, in a visit to Caala, said the friendhsip between the two peoples dates back to the struggle against colonialism for independence of both countries.
“When we were waging the war here against the Portuguese colonist, they (Zimbabweans) were making war against Britain”, Roberto de Almeida recalled, stating the friendship between the populations from both countries became strong from that time.
“During the war, we supported each other, because we wanted to free our lands, we wanted independence and this friendship prolonged until today”, he said.
Roberto de Almeida stated as well that today, the two countries are fighting for common objectives, including bringing famine to an end in the respective countries and securing health and other living facilities for the populations.
The Zimbabwean Parliament speaker visited the province of Huambo for nine years, during which he expressed impression at the dedication of local authorities in recovering the infrastructures destroyed during the war.
In the region, he met with local Government officials and visited the premises of the Agrarian Sciences Faculty, the Medium Agrarian Institute and the headquarters of Caala district.
The Zimbabwe National Assembly speaker is paying a visit to Angola since November 20, at the invitation of his local counterpart, Roberto de Almeida.
