Mwaruwari (29) set a 15-goal target at the start of the season, an ambitious goal for someone who scored only six goals last season and one goal the previous season. He arrived at Pompy during the last quarter of the season.
Benjani is still the leading goal scorer, two ahead of Bolton’s Nicholas Anelka and Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor and Francesco Fabregas.
This week Mwaruwari said: “I was not expecting to be the Premier League’s top scorer. My target was 15 in all competitions, so I have seven to go.”
“Everyone is looking at us as a strong team. We want to finish in the top six if we can. But we need to keep on fighting.”
