MDC youths guard vendor

BINDURA - Brave MDC youths here have resorted to guarding a vendor selling copies of The Zimbabwean in groups of five to repel marauding Zanu (PF) youths who vow the weekly tabloid should not be sold in a "Zanu (PF) territory".

MDC Bindura rural district acting chairperson Alfred Chitonho said ruling party youths had barred the paper from being sold in Bindura as it was critical of the Mugabe regime.

“As part of a strategy to reduce fear among our supporters in Bindura, we thought we should start by making sure the paper is sold and read openly by guarding the vendor until all the copies are sold out. It is now three weeks since we embarked on this strategy and it is working well,” said Chitonho, adding that a delivery of 200 copies is sold out within minutes. – Takesure Bizure
