Zim professionals live in appalling conditions

THE failed Zimbabwean economy has left the country's professionals housing themselves in dangerous squatter camps and shacks, like the one above, in South Africa's poor suburbs.

“Some of the shacks we live in here are pathetic. But what has only become important is getting food and a better paying job, good accommodation is no longer a first priority,” said Tatenda Marufu, (34) a teacher living in Alexandra.

“I used to rent a three-bedroom house in Budiriro 3, but now civil servants like me cannot even rent a one bed-room house,” added Freedom Shumba, (38), who stays now in Olivinehotbosch.
