Gorowa skating on thin ice

SOWETO - Zimbabwean-born coach Ian Gorowa is skating on thin ice as his Moroka Swallows charges continue singing the blues in the South African premiership.

If the hordes of Swallows fans were the leadership of the Soweto club and their frustration anything to go by, the former army man would have been shown the door weeks ago when the team’s atrocious form, especially at home, in.

The Birds slumped to their second consecutive 1-3 home defeat, this time at the hands of Jomo Cosmos.

Apart from victories over Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, Swallows have largely been disappointing with the recent loss at Germiston Stadium leaving them perched on tenth position in the 16-teamlog.

Elsewhere leaders Ajax Cape Town maintained their stranglehold at the top with a 1-1 draw against Platinum Stars.  A similar result transpired in the match pitting Bidvest Wits and Golden Arrows. A rejuvenated Orlando Pirates dismissed bottom placed Royal Zulu 3~1 in Johannesburg with striker Excellent Walaza maintaining his encouraging form while rookies Free State Stars dismissed Supersport United 1~0.

The biggest clash of the weekend saw Chiefs pip Mamelodi Sundowns 3~2 on penalties to win the Telkom Knockout.
