Positives for Zimbabwe

Cricket in Zimbabwe seems to be on the up, building on Octobers hug win over the World Champions,

Australia, Zimbabwe followed it up first with a 10 wicket victory over a South African Composite Side in a first class fixture and this week pulled off a massive 31 run victory over the West Indies in the first of five ODI’s, Zimbabwe in Harare played brilliantly in all three departments and the inclusion of Ray Price has benefited the Zimbabwe set-up hugely.

Price is an aggressive bowler who expects the best from his outfielders and this aggression seems to have lifted the morale of the Zimbabwe squad. Although Zimbabwe lost the second match (by 110 runs) – Price failed to take a wicket in either match, the miserly amount of runs conceded by him and fellow spinner/captain Utseya is causing the West Indies a few headaches.

Zimbabwe have seemingly found a pair of world-class spinners, similar to the successful Warne / McGill partnership that Australia had. Should Zimbabwe return to the Test fold in the future, Zimbabwe’s selectors would have the luxury of having two very capable spinners from which to choose. Zimbabwe play the final two West Indies ODI’s at Queens in Bulawayo this week.
