Zims in Canada to pressure leaders

TORONTO - Zimbabweans in Canada on Monday launched a pressure group, Zimbabwe Coalition for Change (ZICOCHA) to pressure African and European leaders to start visiting Zimbabwe and denouncing political violence and election rigging.

ZICOCHA urged SADC political and civil society leaders to continue exerting pressure on the Zimbabwean government and opposition leaders before elections to effect a peaceful and lasting change in Zimbabwe.

In a report released during the launch, ZICOCHA coordinator Canaan Mhlanga said:  “The story of the struggle for a new Zimbabwe has been ridden by pitfalls of rigged elections and botched talks yet ordinary Zimbabweans continue to suffer. With this situation we call on Africa and European leaders to frequently visit Zimbabwe before elections denouncing political violence and election rigging. This is the time to demand free and fair elections from both ruling party and the opposition parties.” – Ntando Ncube
