Zims responsible for crime – Nqakula

SOUTH AFRICA'S minister of Safety and Security, Charles Nqakula, has expressed concern over the increasing trends in involvement in crime by Zimbabweans.

According to documents supplied by the South African Police management, about 6000 foreigners are currently in SA prisons – more than half are Zimbabweans.

Also accused of being involved in serious crimes are Mozambican citizens – who were allegedly involved in the murder of legendary reggae musician Lucky Dube.

A senior police officer in Johannesburg said  that crimes being done by foreigners were damaging the image of this country.

A Zimbabwean national, Maxwell Khumalo, was recently convicted for his involvement in 28 bank robberies.

Last year Zimbabwean criminals were named in high cash heist scandal that took place at the O R Tambo international airport.

Critics said Nqakula’s comments would promote xenophobia and targeted attacks on foreigners. – Trust Matsilele
