Benjani extends contract

ZIMBABWE soccer captain Benjani Mwaruwari has handed Portsmouth a shot in the arm by insisting he would be keen to extend his contract on the South Coast.

The forward has found his touch in front of goal this term, following a sticky start to life at Fratton Park, and he is now a key figure for Harry Redknapp.

However, the forward’s future was muddied last week after he was quoted as saying he would look to leave the club when his contract expires.

Benjani has now had a change of heart, insisting he is content with life at Pompey and is not ruling out signing an extension.

“I’m still around and I’m not going anywhere,” said Benjani. “When I first came here I struggled but now I am enjoying myself.

“Everyone is good to me from the manager to the fans and the players. I feel settled. I would love to stay here for the rest of my life.

“I’m 29 years old and I’m happy to play at Portsmouth. There are talks going on. We are still working on it.

“If I can get two or three more years here then I will be pleased with that. Let’s hope I can sign soon.”  -Sports reporter
