Eskom pressured to switch off Zim

SOUTH Africa's power utility, Eskom, is under immense pressure to completely switch off electricity supply to Zimbabwe as the country experiences daily power outages.

South African companies on Sunday accused Eskom of exporting more than 3 000 megawatts to Zimbabwe and other SADC member states as their country faces darkness.

Addressing journalists, Jaco Kleynhans of Solidarity said Eskom should stop supplying electricity to Zimbabwe and other neighbouring countries immediately.

Kleynhans said the economy had lost business worth millions of rands as a result of the power cuts.

The issue of Zimbabwe has angered South Africans, who claim that Harare was not paying its bills to Eskom, yet continued to receive supplies at the expense of locals. – CAJ News
