Nyandoro raises hopes at Sundowns

PRETORIA - After scoring the goal that saved coach Gordon Igesund's job and ended Mamelodi Sundowns' eight game winless streak, inspirational Zimbabwe midfield anchorman, Esrom Nyandoro is adamant that his club will return a rejuvenated outfit when the ABSA Premiership resumes next month.

The tough-tackling linkman has thus warned fellow league championship hopefuls to count out Sundowns from the league race at their own peril.

Nyandoro scored The Brazilians’ last goal – a crisp shot from close range against Free State Stars-before the local premiership went for a two-month recess ahead of this month’s African Nations Cup.

“It would be folly for other teams to rule us out of the league race. We are determined to win the league for the third time in a row and we will definitely up the gear when the league resumes,” the player known as Yellowman in the south African league said ahead of the break.

“I am obviously excited at having scored. I am not a regular scorer, so it feels special each time I score,’ he said of the goal that is still fresh in the memories of the disgruntled Sundowns followers.

Champions Mamelodi Sundowns are a pale shadow that have dominated the local topflight for years now and won the last two editions of the league.

An atrocious run of form, coupled by off-field crises, are gradually dashing their hopes of retaining the title while pressure mounts on Igesund. – CAJ News
