Youths demand new constitution

"THE Constitutional crisis in Zimbabwe has taken root in many citizens, and if immediate resolutions are not implemented the country may suffer huge voter apathy," Zimbabwe Youth Network co-coordinator Munjodzi Mutandiri warned on Saturday.

Close to a hundred youths from Zimbabwe gathered in Johannesburg under an initiative of the National Constitutional Assembly to dialogue on the constitutional crisis which has resulted in contested legitimacy of Zimbabwe’s past three major elections.
The youths unanimously agreed that they would not participate in any flawed process.
“As the youths who have long-term aspirations for our country, we refuse to be dragged to an election marred with irregularities by political parties who are merely fighting for immediate personal survival at the expense of suffering citizens,” said Mutandiri.
Leading human rights defender and Director of the Diaspora Dialogue, Emmanuel Hlabangana, said youths were an important component never to be taken for granted in any state and encouraged the youths of Zimbabwe to continue to make noise and dialogue with government for a lasting solution.
“The youths should engage government in finding a lasting solution and at all means they should not engage in violent activities which may bring to question their legitimate concerns,” he added.
