Zims fight for SA teaching jobs

The massive flight of Zimbabwean teachers into South Africa has reached crisis levels with reports that up to 100 Zimbabwean teachers are competing for every vacant teaching position.

Spokesperson of the South African branch of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ-SA), Doctor Ncube, confirmed the development.

“There is definitely no way the South African education system can absorb all the teachers flowing into this country. Finding a job in the teaching field has itself become an impossibly high mountain to climb,” he said.

This has left highly-qualified Zimbabwean teachers settling for menial jobs in the catering and construction sectors.
