Various schools across the country fielded their teams for the trials, which took place in Harare, Bulawayo and Midlands. The provincial sides will clash in two weeks for the final selection of the provisional Under-18 national rugby squad.Harare schoolboys, among them powerhouse Prince Edward, heavyweights Eaglesvale, emerging powerhouse Churchill Bulldogs and hosts, St. Johns, clashed in Harare contesting to impress the selectors’ for a place in the provincial side.
Young Sables head coach, Godwin Murambiwa told The Zimbabwean on Sunday this year’s team will feature a lot of new faces after a bunch of the history making side’s players finished school last year.
Among those who will not feature in this year’s national schoolboy rugby team is former St Johns full-back, Raymond de Jong, who was listed as one of the top scorers of the 2007 Craven Week rugby extravaganza. Former Prince Edward players Tinashe Bopoto and Rangarirai Zembe will not feature in the Under-18 squad this year.
