Silence is not golden

EDITOR – First they sent the 5th Brigade into Matabeleland and I did not speak out because I am not Ndebele. Then they sent the war vets for the white farmers and again I did not speak out because I am not white. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me…!

EDITOR – It pains to note that the comrades are lagging behind at such a crucial moment as this one. It should be noted that a whole lot of work has been done and what is left are the finishing touches.

As Mahatma Gandhi said: “Freedom battles are not fought without paying heavy fines.” Many more have to suffer, many have to die, but that should not deter us from achieving the feat we have been waiting for far too long.

I remember the song by ZINASU cadres called ‘Tiri pachirangano’. Like the lead vocalist of the song we should remain resilient and focused for victory is certain. Let us not lose votes to the Zanu (PF) ideology of violence.

Be prepared to die for the struggle. Use your blood as lubrication.

Cde Chinx echoed this as a prophet. Chero ukaenda kupi nekupi uchangofa nehondo, iropa ratoteurwa. Look at the way the Zimbabweans in South Africa are treated. They thought that by running away from Zimbabwe they would be OK. That is not the case. Aluta continua.

Fight and redeem whichever is yours. Forward ever, backwards never comrade

Burnt out truck

EDITOR – This is an act of TERRORISM, BARBARIC, INHUMANE behavior and shall never be tolerated to continue in Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans have the right to know what’s happening in their country and to read newspapers of their choice.

Zimbabwe is defenseless today because people live in fear, not of enemies, but their own government. Mugabe will not last and one-day democracy shall prevail while justice takes its course.

The people of Zimbabwe need more news from The Zimbabwean. The Struggle Continues.

“Together we will complete the change for a better life for all Zimbabweans”

Many thanks

EDITOR – I would like to take the opportunity to thank you and the rest of the editorial crew behind the production of this paper, for a wonderful coverage of news taking place in our beloved country.

We are also grateful for the continuous provision of our copies especially here in rural areas free of charge enabling some of us who cannot afford the prices of other papers currently in circulation.

However, one thing for certain is that I miss my favourite column of games like Sudoku and the crossword puzzle. May you kindly insert some in your next editions?

We are there but not yet in

EDITOR – The situation in Zimbabwe iss pathetic to say the least. There is a severe food shortage, a severe lack of security, a severe medical shortage just to mention a few a severe problems. The information coming out of Zimbabwe is pathetic, ladies and gentleman. We have heard it through and through and we wonder if it is now rhetoric. The situation is really bad fellow Zimbabweans.

June 27 is a landmark date for the people of Zimbabwe the world over. This is the day when those who will be able to are going to make a final decision by voting Mugabe out of State House. The majority of his colleagues have been given the boot already. The suffering of the people at the moment is a direct result of the losing regime trying to cower people into not making their final democratic choice. Try as hard as they may the people of Zimbabwe have already made a resolve to change the corrupt regime come June 27.

In 1980, Muzorewa and Smith tried very hard to sway the people to reject the liberators, but that failed and a new order was born. Shame on the misguided who think beating people, killing people will stop them from changing the corrupt regime.

It is the people who decide not the leaders. During the liberation struggle many people were killed in and outside of Zimbabwe, but that did not cower the masses from fighting; they actually fought harder. Mugabe tried to subjugate the people in Matabeleland into liking Zanu (PF), but up until now even those who were not born then have stood up and said No!

The ‘No’ vote has spread across the whole country. The people of Zimbabwe have resolved to change. THEY HAVE MADE A RESOLUTION. Beatings, starvation, torture and even murder will not change them.

How do we fit into the process of change?

Our duty is to give our fellow Zimbabweans hope and encouragement. We shall pray for them to conquer fear and have courage to go in their numbers to go and vote. We have a duty to rally behind them and give them the necessary support to pull through. There are those who have been displaced, those who are bereaved, those who are injured; it is our duty to show them love.

These people have got into those predicaments not out of selfishness, but out of the love for Zimbabwe. If we love Zimbabwe we need to show it now Ladies and Gentleman. We need to rally together and pull our resources and help the oppressed.

Let us be proud of the courage shown by our fellow Zimbabweans who are showing no selfishness and committing their lives to this change.

Rip-off rents in Bulawayo

EDITOR – Landlords in Bulawayo are charging high rents to students. I nearly fainted when my landlord told me kuti rent yakwira from Z$25 million per head to Rand 200 per head.

most of the students at NUST are staying in multitudes, about eight (8) people in a room, just imagine.

Mugabe knows his time is short

EDITOR – To the victims of Zanu (PF) sponsored barbaric violence, I greet you in the name of the Lord, the one who cares so much for us.

You are not alone; we are also deeply concerned about what happened to you and your property. The world might seem to be ending when all that you have worked for the rest of your life was destroyed within a few minutes. Friends and relatives were killed before your eyes. Don’t blame yourself, you never committed a crime, it was and still it is your legal right to vote for change. The losses, which you incurred after your houses were burnt down and your children killed, were also a great loss to the nation of Zimbabwe. Zanu (PF) attacked you in great wrath because Mugabe knows that his time is short.

Thank God we don’t have to walk alone. We have his wonderful grace and power working in us, enabling us to have abundant life. We are a blessed people to know the true and living God.

Blessed are you who hunger and thirst for democracy, for you shall be satisfied.

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount said: “Look at the birds of air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” He asked this so we could all see how useless it is to worry. He wants us to always know that he will take care of us as we look to him.

Those who persecute you are being used by the Devil. God never causes what is evil. “Far be it from God that he should do wickedness and the Almighty to do wrong” Job34:10

we suffer because the whole of Zimbabwe is lying in the power of the wicked one.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great. God will repay you like what he did to Job. The Lord will restore your fortunes; you will be given twice as much as you had before. Then people will come to your house and eat bread with you, showing you sympathy and comforting you for all the evil that Zanu (PF) had brought you; and each of them will give you gifts, and the Lord will bless your latter days in New Zimbabwe more than before 29 March 2008. Job42: 10-12.

May God bless you richly is my prayer.

Zanu (PF) mhandu yenyika achaparara nerimwe zuva hauchazomuonizve.

VICTORY IS CERTAIN, Nyanga

Stay and rot

EDITOR – Let me say to Grace Mugabe, we have heard what you said on the radio, Grace, and have accepted it but with regret. State House is not for arrogant people like you and your ageing husband. If you were not prepared to leave State House, it is wise to start preparing to do so before 27 June 2008 because I don’t see the results changing in favour of baba Chatunga.

You had better find alternative accommodation in Mbare or Mufakose, not in Matabeleland, of course. But should you not want to leave the State House for the Honourable President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai, then another option is for us to leave you stay there as we would want to believe that the house is now stinking netsvina ya Chatunga.

We will leave you there and we will build another one for our President Morgan Tsvangirai, as we will be changing everything on the ground; it’s that simple.

So for you to tell us that you won’t leave the house means nothing to us, Grace.

So keep your stinking State House, we will build a new one for our President Morgan Tsvangirai.

Gutless, fence-sitting president

EDITOR – I receive many e-mails and news of the horrible things being

done in SA, to the Zimbabweans who have been forced to flee their homeland.

When will the South African people realise that it is not the Zimbabweans’

fault and target the one who is – their very own, cowardly, gutless, fence-

sitting president.

If they continue allowing him to carry on with his ‘softly, softly’ nonsense

they will be in the same situation as the Zimbabwean and SA will be brought

to her knees.

I say to them – look at what is happening in Zimbabwe and learn because it

will be their turn soon unless they wake up, now!

Torching of newspapers

EDITOR – I was pained greatly by what Mugabe did to The Zimbabwean on Sunday last week. Make no mistake; this act was committed by Mugabe, just like the shooting of Patrick Kombayi and the bombing of the Daily News.

I believe that whilst they achieved their objective of burning the newspaper they will not be able to burn up the people’s desire for change. Mugabe seems to forget that that horrible act will only make the people of Zimbabwe and the International community believe more in what your newspaper says…it becomes a more credible source of news about Zimbabwe.

They are only advertising your newspaper for you and do not give up.

What is in this newspaper that Mugabe is fond of torching? we ask.

Increased political violence in Muzarabani-Chionde area

EDITOR – I do not know whether this is newsworthy. Politically motivated violence is continuing unabated in Muzarabani Chionde area against suspected MDC supporters (I was there on Wednesday, May 28). Hordes of youths took instructions from Chief Kasekete, who received the government vehicle, and the MP elect Raradza.

The following youths are being used to torch homesteads: Daniel Muteve, Masimba Masaiti, Tovimbanashe Chindundu, Peter Guni and Beta.

Reports indicate that they have destroyed a total of 25 households and fatally assaulted 37 people. All these people are not allowed medication.

Movement in three areas is based on production of a Zanu (PF) card and a letter from the party. Several roadblocks are made along the way and buses are searched for suspects and they are injected ad the beaten.

he police only came to the area last week and left leaving the situation worse. No one has been arrested despite several reported cases. People are wondering why people are still being beaten if in Mai Mujuru constituency which covers Chionde Mount Darwin. People are no longer able to harvest their crops.

An act of sabotage

The Zimbabwe National Students Union condemns the bombing of The Zimbabwean newspaper truck by state security agents as an attempt to shut down the voices of the people.

It is rather unfortunate that the regime is not sparing anyone as they desperately try to win the 27 June presidential election. We urge the editor Wilf Mbanga to be resilient and continue the wonderful work he has been doing in promoting an independent voice and divergent views to the information-starved people of Zimbabwe.

We are with you in these harsh times and we hope you were not moved by such acts by the illegitimate regime of Robert Mugabe. The Zimbabwean is the only hope that we have in providing us with an indepedent view in a country where all freedoms, including press freedom, have been violated. We salute you.

Blessing Vava,
Spokesperson,
Zimbabwe National Students Union
