Warriors keeper Arubi’s move to SA premiership in doubt

JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe goalkeeper Washington Arubi's move to the South African premiership is hanging in the balance.

Orlando pirates appear to have lost interest on the highly rated Highlanders goalkeeper.

“We were close to finalizing the deal but the agent who was dealing with the issue passed away and Pirates haven’t come back to us since then, so we haven’t spoken to them since then. I’m not sure if they are still interested or not,” the Highlanders boss,Ernest Maphepha Sibanda, said.

A new coach and the signing of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Moneeb Josephs, also appears to be putting a dampener on the move.

The Buccaneers had shown interest in Arubi in February and it was reported he would sign for the club ahead of the South African Premiership in August.

Pirates, who had a nightmarish season in 2007/08, finishing eighth in the 16-team log, recently offloaded 15 players as one of initiatives aimed at rediscovering their revered form of old.
