Young Warriors take on Egypt

HARARE - Zimbabwe Young Warriors are taking on their Egyptian counter-parts in Cairo June 29 in the African Cup Youth championship.

The under-20 captain, Ovidy Karuru of Masvingo United will be wearing the armband whilst his colleagues from the winning Metropolitan Confederation of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) gold boys will be joining him.

Zimbabwe will then either battle it out with northern neighbours, Zambia or Madagascar depending on which nation excels in its respective group stage of the preliminaries.

According to the line up released June 20, Karuru will be partnered upfront by sharp shooting striker Tafadzwa Rusike and Nicholas Alifandika respectively.

Coaches, Methembe Ndlovu and Taurai Mangwiro have been impressive in the under-20’s so far.

Egypt senior national team are the holders of the African Cup of Nations title so an assignment against Egypt might not be treated like the one against fellow Southern African Development Community (SADC) nations.

“We have to be on our best in order to either beat or hold the Egyptians,” said Karururu.
