The trial was moved from June 20 to July 21 because, the State maintained, witnesses were were not available to come to court for undisclosed reasons.
Chivasa is the Youth Forum Board Chair and the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) national spokesperson. He is facing charges of undermining police authority after addressing a public meeting last September, which was disrupted by polie and Zanu (PF) militia.
The postponement of the trial is clear testimony that the State is basing its story on flimsy accusations, as they clearly cannot corroborate their charges with solid evidence, said a statement from the Board.
At the same courts, the trial of another student leader from Great Zimbabwe University, Oglyve Makova, was adjourned to June 28. Makova is charged with inciting public violence after leading a demonstration by students over tuition fees.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Glanis Changachirere and Tellington Kwashira, who were abducted from Bindura University by suspected CIO agents, remain unknown. The two were taken from their rooms at the institution on Tuesday afternoon.
