Kiglon beat Shooting Stars 1-0

HARARE, (CAJ News)--PREMIERSHIP debutantes Kiglon Football Club narrowly edged city rivals Shooting Stars 1-0 in a balanced, but thrilling CBZ league match played at Chibuku Stadium in the capital on Saturday.


Kiglon, the reigning Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Eastern region division one soccer champions made their intentions clear from the onset when they bombarded their much experienced premiership opponents from all angles forcing three quick corner kicks within the space of 10 minutes.

This came as no surprise when Tawanda Mudyanduri converted for Kiglon in the 25th minute from the spot kick following hand-ball by Shooting Stars defender Daniel Veremu in the 12 yard box.

Upstepped Mudyanduri to slot home from the resultant penalty spot kick giving Shooting Stars goalminder Pedzisai Gumiremhete no chance between the goalposts to make 1-0.

Kiglon defended tightly at the back to maintain their solitary goal that finally assured them of three crucial points after 90 minutes of regulation time.

Saturday’s victory by Kiglon also ended an otherwise impressive run in the premiership by Shooting Stars, who had gone for eight consecutive games without tasting defeat.

The youthful Shooting Stars stopped big premiership giants such as CAPS United, Masvingo United, Motor Action and several other clubs plying in this entertaining CBZ league.

However, the match nearly turned sour when Thabani Goredema for Kiglon was red-carded for striking Alisara Kondowe with his elbow in a tussle for possession.
The match finally ended 1-0 in favour of the host side, Kiglon, whose presence in the country’s top premiership is bearing fruits–CAJ News.
