What sayeth Chatunga?

The rest of the world has been bubbling on about Robert Mugabe, I wonder what his children think about him. Surely, they must have an opinion! They are obviously old enough and hopefully smart enough to have a view.

As the rest of the world starts to put out of their minds the shambles in Zimbabwe and the mockery of democracy that the regime of Robert Mugabe and ZANU (PF) exhibited in the country during the recent elections’, the people of Zimbabwe cannot afford to forget. Even worse, those closer to him like his wife and children have to look him dead in the eye day after day.

I don’t agree with everything my dad has ever done. In the past we have had some heated arguments and debates about issues and sometimes he has failed to turn me round to his way of thinking. Indeed, I have had an opinion since I was 5 years old and I have let it be known to my parents countless times. True, over time I have learnt through experience that some of the views I passionately fought for back then are silly and wrong to say the least. Credit to my parents, I was brought up to believe that having your own individual opinion about things is encourageable. I do suspect though that sometimes they must regret ever letting me speak out my mind, but such is life!

Surely, Bona Mugabe must have a heart in there somewhere. When she sees all this suffering and pain that the people of Zimbabwe are living through, whose door does she lay the blame on?

I wonder what Robert (Jnr) thinks about his dad refusing to pay school fees because he says it has become too expensive? Schools are getting run down and failing to meet their obligations and his dad who is supposed to be on top of things is blaming the schools for the mess.

And what about Chatunga?

I know their dad has probably tried so hard to keep them insulated from the fiasco that Zimbabwe has become. However, I find it hard to believe that these kids who go to school and have friends and probably have other interaction outside the palace  that is the state house would have no clue what the rest of the country is going through. Therefore, since they know at least part of the disaster, what do they think of it?

Everyone knows that if you want your dad to change his mind about something then you talk to your mom. At least that was how it was when I was growing up. What I would give to be a fly on the wall when Bona chats with Grace, her mom, about daddy’. If you think about it, so would you; I know you would!!!!

It would be a tragedy if Mugabe’s children truly believed in their hearts that their father’s brutal actions against his own people are justifiable. Granted they probably don’t want his assets to be frozen for obvious reasons, but to support his actions would be heartbreaking. He has but a few years of his life left and no one remotely believes he can be rehabilitated. On the contrary, these children will still be here possibly for another 60years. My heart would not rest easy knowing that out there in the world somewhere, there are some people who are capable of inflicting such pain on their fellow countrymen and bragging about it on international television.

I sincerely pray that these children have more heart and empathy than the man whose seed brought them forth into this world. For the sake of humanity, I hope that they are as different from their father as Gandhi was to Hitler.
