ZFTU fires Chinotimba

HARARE - The controversial self-fire brand trade unionist, Joseph Chinotimba, has been fired from the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions (ZFTU) over a conflict of interest.

ZFTU Secretary General Kenias Shamuyarira confirmed Chinotimba had been fired for “misrepresenting himself as a ZFTU official” and because of his ”unorthodox” labour practices when conducting ZFTU business.

This is not the first time Chinotimba has had sour relations with ZFTU. In 2006 President Alfred Makwarimba suspended him on allegations of insubordination for attempting to link the ZFTU with Jonathan Moyo’s United People’s Movement after the Tsholotsho debacle.

Chinotimba came to fame during Mugabe’s 2000 land grab exercise. He spearheaded several land invasions throughout the country, which disrupted agricultural productivity.

He denied he had been fired and said he was resigning to concentrate on business and politics.
