Sulaimana: DPP parliamentary aspirant for Zomba

Police in Blantyre are keeping in custody private political aide to President Bingu Mutharika, Dr Sudi Adak Sulaimana. Fiscal Police confirmed to Nyasa Times that they arrested controversial Sulaimana on allegations that he obtained money by false pretence.

Sulaimana was arrested on Friday for obtaining money by false pretence, said police.

He is being kept at Chilomoni Police, police informed.

Sulaimana, who has been previously accused of plotting to ovethrow government of Dr Kamuzu Banda and Dr Bakili Muluzi, is being accused of fraudulently obtaining money from a Mrs Madzuwa Serenje amounting to K1. 5 million.

A member of ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and President Mutharika’s special aide on security and intelligence issues, Sulaimana is an aspirant parliamentary candidate for Zomba Central Constituency.

He is going to face sitting MP Yunus Mussa and John Bisika in the primaries due in November.

DPP deputy spokesperson Wyson Mkochi said he had not heard about Sulaimana’s arrest.

Its news to me,the party has not heard anything said Mkochi.

Sulaimana has been part of the government propaganda machine through the hate-filled programmes on state radio, MBC.

In a related development, police also arrested lawyer Harry Chiume.

Chiume former president of National Unity Party and secretary of Aford party was arrested for suspicion of fraudulently obtaining money amounting to K2.7 million. Fiscal police said they were still investigating the issue of Chiume who is lecture at the University of Malawi.- Nyasa Times
