Gondwe, who is tipped to be President Bingu wa Mutharika’s running mate for next May general elections, has won top accolade for the economic achievements Malawi has reportedly realised during the four years that he has been the country’s purse keeper.

The ministers were meeting to, among others, discuss and come up with possible solutions to the financial turmoil currently facing Third World countries.

Gondwe’s continental award comes barely a few months after President Mutharika won three different awards.

Meanwhile, another Malawian, Marie Da Silva, is keeping her fingers crossed after she was nominated among seven individuals from across the world for the 2008  CNN Top 10 Heroes for their outstanding contribution in championing children’s right to education and life.
