Emerging giants, Monomotapa are marching on with determination to grab the 2008 CBZ premier soccer league title, with their recent victory over Eastern Lions on October 25, opening a 12-points lead for Norman Mapeza's charges.

Although the former national team captain had always stressed that their aim is to win all our matches, the championship comes as a bonus it appears his mission is being accomplished with his troops heading for the big bonus.

Monomotapa have so far pocketed 50 points from 23 matches, having won a total of 16 matches, losing five and drawing two.

Njube Sundowns trail behind with 38 points from 12 victories and nine stalemates.

Last weekend, the defending champions, Dynamos, were 16 points behind, with five games in hand, falling short of a point behind Monos, if they are to win all their games.

Mapeza still believes there is a long way to go, as Sundowns, Dynamos and Highlanders will continue to be a threat.

Having dismissed the big three teams in Zimbabwe football -Caps United, Dynamos and Highlanders- in the first round, Mapeza hopes his charges will play well when they meet them for the second time to prove their victory was no fluke.

People can always say it was mere luck but this is football, if you play well, you win. These are going to be massive games and if we play well we will surely win, he said.

Monomotapa are also proving stubborn in the CBZ FA Cup, having cruised past Douglas Warriors with a 1-0 victory to qualify for the quarter finals. They are set to face Eastern Lions in the semi-finals as Mapeza hopes to make it to the finals.

We are a game away from the finals, I hope and wish we will make it, Mapeza said.

A league title will be a boost to the former Warriors midfielder’s coaching career, as well as the zealous Monos players, with a big task ahead of shining in the MTN Caf Champions League, next year.
