Our people are dying from starvation. They are dying from curable diseases. They are living in squalor and contracting cholera in large numbers – innocent children who don’t know that the water they are drinking or even just being exposed to, is contaminated and will cost them their lives! And yet, Africa stands by and watches us die….. Our working class, what few there is, stands in queues at the bank all day, just to get money that won’t even buy a loaf of bread? I myself go to the bank daily to withdraw Gono’s dictated amount of my own hard-earned cash and yet….three weeks of constant withdrawal of money still sees me suffering as due to ever-rising costs, I will never have enough money to purchase the chronic drugs I must take in order to survive. Yet rumours doing the rounds say the RBZ has given certain people money to burn forex…..how can you pay someone 40quadrillion for a measly R100? And what is the point of having these quads in one’s b ank account? Is this a ploy so that Gono can once again remove some zeros and steal our money again? What was the purpose of introducing foreign currency trading licences? Another ploy to grab the people’s forex for money-hungry leaders? Great, so again, ordinary working people suffer because they do not earn foreign currency and therefore cannot go into these shops which, incidentally, are fully stocked!
When will it end? Are we all to perish before anyone stands up to these greedy politicians? For many years we have heard echoes that we, Zimbabweans, must sort ourselves out. So it would appear with the sharing of the Home Affairs ministry, we have no option but to sort ourselves out to the grave because that is where we will all go! We would love to take to the streets in protest but what will come of it? Death, death and more death! So what do we do now? Who do we turn to now? Â
Congratulations to Mr Obama but we cannot possibly turn to him to free us – he has inherited his own share of problems and his first priority must be to sort his own country out first. Tsvangirai is in no way the peoples enemy’ – he is the only one with the Zimbabwean people’s interests at heart but he cannot go it alone…..
Do we go on believing if God be for us, who can be against us? Alas, it seems there is no-one else!
