SA squatters fear rainy season

JOHANNESBURG - For those living in shacks the approaching rainy season marks the beginning of hard times.

The rain that fell across the country over the weekend damaged property worth several hundred thousands rands as temporary structures known as Mkhukhus gave in.

“We couldn’t sleep, we spent the whole night clearing water from our water-logged shack,” a resident of Pumzile Khulwane said.

Families appealed to the government to address the issue and provide decent accommodation for its citizens, fearing the outbreak of disease.
