S.Africa’s Engen refinery shut down after fire

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's Engen said on Thursday it had shut down its refinery in the Durban Industrial Basin, the country's second-largest refinery, after a fire overnight.

“The fire started around twenty past midnight (2220 GMT) and was put out around ten past three in the morning (0110 GMT),” said Engen spokesman Herb Payne.

“Unfortunately, the refinery will be shut down for some time because of repairs and we are also investigating the cause. We do not know how long that will be.”

The refinery has a capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.
