MDC members’ houses petrol bombed by Zanu (pF)

BINDURA - Two MDC members including the councillor for ward 7 in Bindura were arrested on Sunday while five activists had their houses petrol bombed by Zanu PF supporters for refusing to attend the funeral of Zanu PF's political commissar, Elliot Manyika.

Zanu PF supporters soon after hearing the death of Manyika moved around
Chipadze Township mobilising people to attend the funeral Manyika’s
farm just outside Bindura town.

Manyika was the MP for Bindura North in Mashonaland Central province.

However, most MDC supporters were reluctant to attend the funeral and Zanu PF thugs started beating up people.

During Sunday night, five houses of MDC supporters including the home
of Councillor Amiko Chikowanyika were petrol bombed by Zanu PF
supporters.

Police however, arrested two MDC members including Councillor Norbert
Dhokotera and Reckson Kaseke on false allegations that they had petrol
bombed the houses.

This violence against MDC supporters comes soon after the abduction of
Zimbabwe Peace Project director Jestina Mukoko and that of 15 MDC
activists including two, two year old children.

The abductions are against the letter and spirit of the Global
Political Agreement (GPA), which recognises the basic freedom of the
people.

Zanu PF remains intransigence and insincere and the MDC reiterates that
the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union
(AU) leaders should speak against these acts of violence being
perpetrated by Zanu PF and State security agents against MDC members.
