Seretse said in Parliament last week that work was delayed due to the
discovery of unforeseen problems such as ants on the roof that
necessitated complete re-roofing of the building. The project is now
expected to be completed in March.
Meanwhile the old Serious Crime Squad offices are being converted into
army barracks to provide accommodation for the Botswana Defence Force
(BDF) sentry at State House, according to the Minister.
Seretse told Parliament when presenting budget proposals for his
ministry that work is expected to start during the first quarter of
2009/2010.
The conversion of the former serious crime squad offices will consume
part of the P7.5 million allocated for the completion of Phase III of
the State House, which, among others comprises of rehabilitation of
electrical, mechanical and plumbing installations and landscaping.

The minister for Defense, Justice and security Dikgakgamatso Seretse says the anticipated completion of State House in October last year was delayed by problematic ants.
