DPP youths brigade want pay

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is yet to pay youths who planted banners for the party's convention, held between January 17 and 18 earlier this year.

One of the youths, who also work for a government parastatal in
Blantyre, revealed in an interview the party mobilised a group of over
500 youths to do the job.

He said, however, when it transpired that the task would be for free,
over 470 of the people who had earlier on showed interest chickened
out, a development that prompted the party to raise the stakes to K30,
000.

"We are, however, surprised that we haven’t received our money, let
alone heard anything on that. Some of us had to abscond from work to do
that job, and hoped that we could fundraise.

We may even have part of our pay deducted at the workplace, though
party official assured us before we embarked on that task that they
would make sure it doesn’t happen since they are the ‘guys’ in power,"
said one of the youths, working for a parastatal.

He said some traffic wardens from Blantyre City Assembly also participated in the task, and were still waiting for their money.

But DPP secretary-general Henry Chimunthu Banda when attempts were made
to hear the party’s side of the story- did not even want to hear
anything on the issue.
