So far about 39 people have died across the country due to cholera. Lilongwe alone has had over 30 deaths.
In a related development, at least one person out of the three cholera suspects who died recently in Kasungu has been confirmed to have died of the disease according to Kasungu District Deputy Healthy Officer, Josam Banda.
Banda said stool samples of the three suspects were sent to Community Health Science Unit (CHSU) in Lilongwe two weeks ago where it was established that one of them was a cholera case.
We received confirmation on samples sent to CHSU on Monday that one person died of cholera while the other two came out negative …” he said.
Principal Administrator at the hospital, Fredson Kambeni who also confirmed the development said the hospital was however alert of any cholera outbreak.Â
Kambeni said all the cholera medical supplies and equipment have already been sent to all health centres in the district in addition to civic educating and training of Health Surveillance Assistants in the district. – Nyasa Times
