MALAWI: DPP replaces regional governors

As pressure continues to mount in Malawi's ruling party Democratic Progressive (DPP) ahead of May sticky polls, the party has removed all its regional governors.

Southern regional governor Isaac Nyakamera, central region boss Bintony
Kutsaira, north governor Harry Mkandawire and eastern region governor
Harris Kanyumba have all been removed from their posts.

However, the party has redeployed the officials to other positions.

Nyakamera has been appointed deputy secretary-general of the party
replacing Francis Mphepo. Noel Masangwi the spokesman of the Mulakho WA
Alhomwe group takes over as southern regional governor.

Mkandawire has been reassigned as deputy director of political affairs.

Kutsaira who is current serving deputy minister of irrigation and water
development and Kanyumba's new assignments were not known and their
replacements were not confirmed.

Returnee spokesman of DPP, Hetherwick Ntaba when contacted on phone could not comment on the matter.

Your phone is faint, I can hardly hear you, said Ntaba Sunday night.

When pressed to comment on the developments, Ntaba said: I am in a
place where network is very bad. I will be in town after an hour so
please call me that time so that I can comment clearly.

After an hour, Ntaba could not pick up his phone after twenty attempts.
