One million security guards to protect albinos

The Tanzania Security Industry Association (TSIA) has announced that it will deploy one million security guards all over the country as part of its contribution in the on-going war against albino killings.

TSIA Chairman Almas Maige said recently said that the security guards,
who would work as volunteers, would monitor movements of albinos to
make sure that they are safe wherever they go.

“Our association has decided to deploy volunteer security guards who
will protect albinos, be it in the offices, schools or in their houses.
The aim is to support government efforts in the fight against albino
killings,“ Maige said.

He said TSIA had also directed all security guards to give information on people they suspect to be behind the albino killings.

“We believe people involved in such heartless incidents live within our communities,“ he said adding,

“I call upon security guards to identify all albinos and where they
live and provide them with mobile phone numbers so that when they are
in trouble they can easily access a security guard for assistance.“

Maige also said his association was concerned about unnecessary road
accidents, adding that his men would be giving information to traffic
police about reckless driving.
