Speaking during the launch of SAAFI meat shop in Dar es Salaam on
Saturday the Prime Minister said the aim of the government is to reduce
poverty for the majority of Tanzanians most of whom engage in
agriculture and cattle keeping.
Pinda said that more than 80 per cent of Tanzanians depend on
agriculture and cattle keeping for their livelihood and so it won`t be
proper for the government to allow so many people to continue living
under extreme poverty.
He encouraged others to start investing in such businesses so as to
ensure sustainable meat availability throughout the country.
Deputy Minister for Livestock Development and Fisheries Dr James Wanyancha said there is a reliable meat market in Tanzania.
He gave the example of Dar es Salaam where each of the population of 4 million people consume 18 kilogrammes annually.
The Executive Chairman of SAAFI Halal Meat Factory, Chrisant
Mzindakaya, called upon the government to prohibit exports of cattle
because it affects the meat market abroad.
