HARARE - For the past few weeks, there have been serious problems with email and browsing to all domains ending in .zw. This problem is caused by failure of the International .ZW Internet Database Servers, the "telephone directories" for Zimbabwe Internet. The source hosts for .ZW domains are managed and housed by TelOne and,
for various reasons, these servers have not been reachable
internationally for some time. The .zw name has now almost completely
dropped from the Internet.
These problems have effected all .zw URLs and email addresses,
including anything ending in .co.zw, .org.zw, .ac.zw and .gov.zw. Thus,
if you have been trying to browse to web pages, or send messages to
email addresses on any of these domains, chances are you have been
getting error messages or your emails have not been getting through.
These problems are not permanent, and we hope TelOne will resolve these
issues soon, but in the meantime, you may want to find other ways to
get in touch with some of these organisations, if you find they are not
replying to your queries.
